Like disease, health too is contagious. Seeing someone close practice healthy habits motivates us to adopt a healthy lifestyle as well. This World Health Day, we bring you some simple yet highly effective tips to help you preserve your health and prosper abundantly in life.

1. Ditch antibacterial soap
There is no evidence gathered by an independent study which proves that antibacterial soaps are more effective than regular ones. In fact, long term exposure to some ingredients in these products, such as triclosan, may pose health risks like bacterial resistance or hormonal effects.

2. Exercise when you’re tired
After an exhausting day, the bed is way more desirable than the gym, but it is actually a 30 minute moderate intensity workout that will energize your body and invigorate your mind. So next time your bed beckons after a long day, hold off till you’ve done some exercises, it will tackle the fatigue and moodiness as well as help you sleep better.

3.Eat more to lose weight
This is counterintuitive but very effective. Six small meals help you ingest your daily nutrition needs while fending off cravings for junk food as compared to the standard 3 meals a day. So treat yourself to a healthy snack like a fruit or some dry muesli in between main meals.

4. For healthy teeth, don’t brush after eating
Acidic food like citrus fruits, sports drinks, tomatoes, soda softens tooth enamel. Brushing right after eating them can speed up the acid’s effect and erode enamel even more. Rinse with plain water after meals and hold off for at least an hour before you brush after eating.

5. Flush with the lid down
Flushing the toilet while the lid is open can cause dirty water particles to suspend in the air outside the bowl and then settle on surfaces and objects in the bathroom, unleashing swarms germs that can cause all manner of diseases. Paste a sheet of paper in the washroom reminding people to flush after they shut the toilet lid.
